Brazilian Street Artist's Mural Raises Questions About Our Sports-Over-Poverty Culture

A Brazilian street artist, Paulo Ito, recently had a mural go viral earlier this month due to the strong reference to Brazil's hunger for soccer over poverty.

Jeremy Stahl of Slate originally published an article about the image being the subject to a plethora of media coverage in Brazil.

The 2014 World Cup is set to begin June 12th and it is estimated that Brazil has spent nearly a billion dollars in preparation for the world event. However, Brazil still remains a poverty stricken country.

Historically, sports have always been tied to politics and/or wars in some shape or form. It's interesting to see an artist make such a strong statement about hunger and poverty as it regards to the world's love for the beautiful game.
